Chicago, City of the Big Shoulders, has gotten a new bird’s eye view of its magnificent scenery. Some excellent new footage has just been uploaded to Vimeo by user Colin Hinkle. In this footage, you will see some amazing new views of Chicago landmarks such as the famous lake front, Buckingham Fountain, Northerly Island, and much more.
The footage was captured, according to information supplied by Hinkle, with a GoPro Hero 3 Black in 2.7k HD with a H3-3D gimbal. This camera set up seems to be the new preferred “rig” when it comes to practicing the modern technique of dronography or droneography. The rig was then mounted on to a DJI Phantom 2 quad copter. The drone footage captured shows a typical Chicago day in the summer time, starting with the Chicago river early in the morning, through the heart of the city’s downtown area, and back to the river at the end of the day.
This excellent new aerial footage definitely manages to show the versatility of the drone camera combination. By mixing low altitude and high altitude shots, Hingle manages to capture a gripping panorama of the great city of Chicago on a typical summer day. This is essential viewing.
